Proven Impact on Practice!

This course is one of nine that form the Integrative Therapies in Hospice and Palliative Care Program. The National Cancer Institute sponsored the development and evaluation of this educational program. In a randomized controlled trial with 170 physicians, nurses, social workers and other palliative care professionals, the program led to highly significant changes in practice behaviors that promote integrative care.

Publication of study results is forthcoming, and will mark this as the first online CE/CME with documented impact on practice behaviors that promote integrative care.

Guest Faculty

Gary Deng, MD, PhD

He is Medical Director, Integrative Medicine Service, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, where he leads a multidisciplinary team providing supportive cancer care. A member of MSKCC’s Research Council, he was President of the Society for Integrative Oncology and has led numerous studies in acupuncture and other integrative therapies in palliative care. He has authored review articles and medical textbook chapters on integrative medicine, and heads the integrative medicine physician training program, supervising medical students, residents and fellows.

Leila Kozak, PhD

Director of IPCI

She has led NIH- and VA-funded research and implementation projects on integrative therapies in supportive cancer and palliative care, hospice and geriatrics. A former Whole Health Champion for the VA’s Office of Patient-Centered Care & Cultural Transformation, she has taught integrative care at medical, nursing and psychology schools.

William Collinge, MPH, PhD, LCSW

Associate Director of IPCI

He has led NIH-funded studies on integrative therapies, mental health, palliative care and caregiver education. He has been a scientific review administrator for NIH and the DoD, has clinical background in both integrative oncology and community mental health, and has taught at several universities.
